Artist: Samantha Schmidt Teacher: Mr. Salyers Subject Matter: Pumpkin Medium: Colored Pencil Evaluation: I liked being able to use colored pencils for this project, but disliked the overall theme of it. A strength for this project was shading the pumpkin, but an area that I could improve on would be the background. If I were to redo this project I would add some detail to the background of the piece. While doing this project I learned some new ways to shade with colored pencil that helped develop my skills. The shape of the pumpkin helps give off a smooth feeling. The coloring of the pumpkin and the shading within it helps to give a sense of a 3D image on the paper. The shading also helps to give the viewer the impression that the texture of the pumpkin is fairly smooth. The curved shading on the pumpkin provides a vertical movement on the piece. Each are of the pumpkin is fairly well proportioned to the rest, no part looking considerably smaller or larger than the rest. Course: Drawing and Painting
Artist: Samantha Schmidt Teacher: Mr. Salyers Subject Matter: Industrial Medium: Pastel Evaluation: I liked being able to use pastel on this project, but disliked how difficult it was to get the pastel to give a shading affect. I could improve on developing the background of the image, as that was an area of weakness for the image. A strength was creating the shading of the sleeve of the man in the image. If I went back and did this project again, I'd of added more development to the background of the image. The curved lines moving from the sparking area of the image help create a sense of movement from that point in the picture. The color helps to provide a sense of where the light is reflecting. The space of the image is well balanced, the paper being filled well. The man in the image is also well proportioned with the helmet to the arm. Course: Drawing and Painting
Artist: Samantha Schmidt Teacher: Mr. Salyers Subject Matter: Face Medium: Paint Evaluation: I liked the freedom to choose what kind of abstract painting we wanted to make. I disliked that the project had to be done in paint. A strength for this project was using geometric shapes to help create the outline of a face. A weakness was keeping the spread of the paint even across the canvas, and keeping the lines well defined. I could improve on the neatness of the lines in my paintings. I learned how to mix various paint colors during this project to get the desired color. If I did this project again I would spend more time trying to carefully define my lines. The shape of the geometric shapes in the image comes together to form the shape of a face. The color helps to define the form of the face and provide a sense of unity. The colors overall keep the image balanced due to their variety. Course: Drawing and Painting
Artist: Samantha Schmidt Teacher: Mr. Salyers Subject Matter: Owl Medium: Pen and marker Evaluation: I liked being able to make the owl look weaved with this project through shading. I disliked how much time it took to complete this project, but liked the overall outcome. A strength for this project was shading the weaves, but a weakness was adding development to the background. If I were to redo the piece I'd of added more detail and added something to the background. I developed my skills at shading with pen while doing this project. I used the form and shape of the owl to use the colors of my shading to add a feeling that it was weaved. The lines of the weaves help to add shape and the shading helps to add a texture. The even weaving helps make the piece look balanced and creates a sense of movement down from the wings. |
